I visited with a childhood friend yesterday and who happens to be quite ill. We spoke with each other and shared stories of our past childhood and growing up years. We talked about the good times we have had in life and of course the challenges that we have or are going through. We shared scripture and prayed together. We encouraged one another. Who would have thought that years later we would be sharing stories and praying together? But we did.
I left her home and went to mine and I was heartened. On that drive home, I began to pray for her all the more. I thought of the song Lead Me to the Rock and I thanked the Lord for the strength and solidity I sense when I think of Him as my Rock.
Does God listen to our heart’s cry? Yes, He does! Does He hear our prayers? Yes, He does! Does He know when we’re overwhelmed and need help and guidance? Yes, He does!
When all seems far away or seems unreachable or even lost; the Lord is there. The Psalmist knew this and cried out for help. He knew God was his rock of safety, his refuge; a fortress where the enemy could not find him. He was overwhelmed with thoughts of loneliness, fear and need.
As I read his psalm my heart is tranquil and comforted. It is good to relax one’s heart. And for me, it can only be done when I tell myself, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior.” 2 Samuel 22:2
So, I call on Him daily. It truly makes a significant difference within me.
