Be at Peace…

I woke again in the wee hours of the new day. It is quiet and my family sleeps. I move around the house and begin to prepare for the new day. As I move from room to room, I ask the Lord, “what is it you want to share with me at this hour?” I continue moving about quietly doing all that I would ordinarily do in the morning hours of the day.
As I finally sit with a warm cup of herbal tea, I begin to reflect on the question I asked earlier. The thought comes to mind, “It is peaceful at this hour. It is quiet, and I sense safety.” As I sit here and wait and digest the thought that came to mind, I understand His message to me this morning.
I recall that yesterday as we were driving to church, I saw a flock of geese going south. In fact, I saw several flocks of geese. As I watched them gliding in the air I sensed peace. These creatures know where they’re going; it is instinctive. They know when to go, where to go and obviously trust each other to get there. I didn’t give it more thought, until this moment.
Our world isn’t at peace. There is trouble of some sort everywhere. There are needs to be met; innumerable needs of so many people including ourselves. How can we be at peace when trouble surrounds us?
The sense of peace is extraordinary. When we go to the Source of our peace, and our “mind is stayed on Him” we have peace. Peace becomes instinctive to us just as the geese know to get to where they’re going for safety and protection from the elements they face.
“You, Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever; he will always protect us.” Isaiah 26:3-4 I am sitting here quietly, reflecting and enjoying this time alone with my Source of peace. I am protected. I am safe regardless of what elements I face today. Oh, but the Lord is good. Shalom, Shalom…
