Wait…expectantly!

This morning as I walked in from having taken the older grandchildren to the bus stop, I was met by my four-year-old grandson at the door. He had just gotten up from bed, was holding his favorite blanket and asked me for milk. I walked in somewhat rattled after the earlier morning “hurries” with the older siblings. We feed the horses and the cows and check their water trough early in the morning and that in itself is a job to do out in the colder mornings. Nonetheless, I entered my home just jangled in thought and thinking about the projects left to be done.
When I saw him, my initial thought was, “why is he out of bed, it’s only 7:00 a.m.!” However, I didn’t say anything because I knew he would persist until I gave him milk. As he helped me get the milk out of the refrigerator, he says, “Nana, today is a great day!” I asked him, “what did you say?” He repeats, “today is a great day, the sun is out and we woke up!”
I couldn’t help but tear up and thank the Lord for the reminder, that today in fact, is a great day! Out of the mouth of babes we can be brought back to acknowledge what really is important. He must have noticed the change in my mood because he perked up and said, “see Nana, you know it’s a great day, too.” “Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.” Proverbs 3:6
My grandson’s words were a jolt to my heart and spirit. My morning changed. What did I do? I went to the Lord, asked forgiveness and remembered, the scripture in Psalm 5:3, “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my request before you and wait expectantly.”
I wait expectantly. Enjoy your day.
