Change in our life’s journey is inevitable. We can’t escape it and pretend it doesn’t happen. I read recently that “Change is movement away from the present. And change is movement toward a future that promises not just something different but, hopefully, something better.” The Apostle Paul also noted, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
I am currently challenged by change that was quite unexpected. And, as mentioned, I can’t escape from it. I must face it, deal with it and move on. I have read Romans 8:28 so many times, and it is now during this time of change that I tell myself, God does work in “everything” and not just in “pick and choose” incidents. And, conceivably so, they are for our good. Is that easy to accept? Not necessarily, but I have found that trusting God in such has made it a whole lot easier.
I gather from this scripture as I go over it again and again, that God works in our life to fulfill his purpose and not so that we’re always happy. This is true because we know that not all that happens to us is good. The prevalence of evil in this world is rampant and destructive. We face it every day.
As believers we aren’t left alone to battle with our own personal resources. Romans 8:27, “And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” It is possible that sometimes we just don’t know what or how it is to pray. The words just don’t come forth for whatever reason. But, we have God’s Spirit to help us and it intercedes for us. Thus, when we bring our requests to God and seek his help we must trust that he will do what is best.
I am thankful for this. I am thankful for God’s intervention and intercession as I pray during changes in my life. I really can’t do it without him; not face some of the circumstances that unexpectedly come my way. But, I trust him. Who else is there?
