“You’re going the wrong way,” blurts out my grandson. I realize he is right. “Thank you, for letting me know,” I answer him and I change the direction I was going. His smile beams from ear to ear. He enjoys being appreciated when he does something good for someone else. He’s only four years old, but, wise to an extent and I have learned much from him. My grandson’s smile made me think about how a simple “thank you” makes a momentous impact on someone.
I thought, “Do I acknowledge my gratitude significantly to the Lord? Do I acknowledge the smaller things, the daily things that somehow become routine and insignificant?” I answered my own questions when I thought, “how can I even think that those daily, and small things are routine and insignificant?” As my grandson told me that morning, “you’re going the wrong way.” I suppose I can do that as well in the direction of my thoughts.
Just as we become distracted as we drive and lose direction; we do the same within the direction of our thoughts. Colossians 4:2 tells us, “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Those simplistic eight words advise us to devote to prayer and thus become more observant of where we’re going and be thankful that we stay on track.
There really isn’t any other way to go…
