Okay, so I’ve self-talked myself out of fretting; I can’t do anything when surrounded by circumstances out of my control. I won’t fret if I trust the Lord and do good as the Psalmist wrote. And, doing that, I can delight myself in the Lord; after all his promises are true. I know to commit my way unto the Lord even during those times of severe testing and challenges of my faith. Our nation is in so much need of our prayers and I must trust God to help us during these times of radical changes in our American way of living.
We need to move on, no matter what. And, in those times that what we do and why we do it becomes an entanglement of physical tension, emotional bursts, mental stress, and spiritual anxiety; we need rest! Better yet, we need to rest in the Lord. We can rest and pacifically so. When I rest in the Lord, I am tranquil and definitely more thoughtful. How long has that been?
Yesterday, I listened to a talk radio show where a pastor was speaking to a woman who had no peace of mind, utterly frustrated because she had been praying and still had no answer from God. The pastor brought out the importance of waiting. He told her she needed to rest; that is to be silent, watchful and patient. The complaining and grumbling was just counterproductive to the rest we so desperately need. The waiting is the challenge and requires significant discipline.
Psalm 30:5 “For His anger endures but a moment; in His favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” We have heard often God’s responses are timely. His presence is always there for us. “God’s presence is like the sunrise—you can’t hurry it up and you can’t stop it.” It’s there! And, with that we wait, quietly, calmly and expectantly. Rest in the Lord and be blessed.
