This morning as I walked the back fields and stopped to watch the sun rise, I told myself, “You fret too much and you know better.” These self-talks are therapeutic and help me get back on track. As the sun rose; I listened to the horses’ graze, the birds sing, felt the cool breeze on my face, and smelled the dew on the grasses of the field, I was at peace. I began to thank God for the day and asked Him to help me through it, and to keep me in check regarding my “fretting.” I was reminded that He is there; no matter what I sense, or feel, or need. He is there.
Sometimes we get ourselves into a “dither” because we carry a heavy load. In God’s service it happens unexpectedly, and it is part of the work. However, the workload doesn’t have to be as much a burden as we might make it out to be. We just need to trust the Lord to see us through the situations we face and seek His guidance in working through them. Yes, others make the workload seem insurmountable and quite frankly create more burden to our heart. But, we must never forget God is there.
The Psalmist wrote and described it well, “Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass. And He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him. (Psalm 37:1-7)
We know to trust. We know to do good. This should be second nature to our committed life to the Lord. Yet, there are those times that our human nature will routinely step in to deflate our “vim and vigor” and we can become disconsolate and burdened. The remedy to this is in our delight in the Lord. How can we delight in the Lord? It will happen when we know Him well. Every day He allows us should be the day to enhance our relationship with Him. Simply, get closer and closer to the Lord. Develop a profound and cherished relationship with the Lord. Let Him know how much you care for Him and receive the great love He has to offer.
This reminder has diminished the “fretting” I had earlier…it’s a consistent discipline I receive through my self-talk therapy. God is good!
