Oh, But He Knows Us!

When Gideon heard what the two Midianites spoke; his faith was totally rejuvenated. Immediately after he bowed and worshiped God, he took his 300 men to battle. They didn’t have the latest in technology of arms; but with the Spirit of God, their trumpets, and torches which were hidden inside clay pitchers were all they needed. Gideon told his men, “Watch me, and follow my lead. When I get to the edge of the camp, do exactly as I do. When I and all who are with me blow our trumpets, then from all around the camp blow yours and shout, ‘For the Lord and for Gideon.’” Now, this was a confidant Gideon!
Once the go-ahead was given and the shouts were heard, the Midianites were caught off guard and thought they were entrapped by a large army. They panicked and began fighting against each other; finally cutting out into the night. Their mighty strength had been vanquished by 300 men led by Gideon, a man led by God.
Like Gideon, you and I must listen to God, be on guard and not get caught off guard. It’s an easy thing to hear God’s voice through his Word, but it’s another to truly listen to it and abide by its precepts. It’s too risky not to listen, trust me, I know. Every day of our life is quite unique. And, as we live day to day we may come up against barriers, and unexpected obstacles that seem so out of reach. There are those moments we face the enemy of our heart and we can be caught up with fear and believe we don’t stand a chance to overcome. Winston Churchill said it most fitting, “Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”
We overcome by faith and obedience to God. He gives the courage, strength, understanding, whatever we may need to overcome. He knows who we are and what we are really all about.
