“The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.” Psalm 29:4. I believe the writ of the Psalmist. The power and strength that come from His voice is soothing to the believers heart. It can also be forcefully demanding and short, such that I stop to listen more carefully to determine what I need to change within me.
I hear his voice when I spend time in study of his Word and communicate with him in thought and in prayer. It is a discipline that needs constant attention; I have found that it is a constant challenge. The distractions are subtle at times and hide in the ordinary of everyday living.
But His voice is more powerful and it comes also in the ordinary routine of my life. When I really listen to it, I am moved to appreciate and contemplate on His message to me. His voice keeps me grounded.
Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27. Simply, we, as His sheep, saved by His grace through faith in Him hear His voice. We also recognize its majesty and power because we know Him as our Shepherd. If we are to recognize and know his voice, we must belong to Him. It’s that simple.
I work at being ready to hear His voice. I don’t want to miss His call to come Home!
