Faulty Bow…Faulty Heart

Try shooting arrows with a faulty bow and see what happens. The mark will be missed! If we went into battle with such a faulty bow we would be at the mercy of the enemy! We would be exposed and defenseless. Life without God is the same. And, some people live that way. “They do not turn to the Most High; they are like a faulty bow.” Hosea 7:16

One of Hosea’s key themes is that Israel broke the covenant it made with God at Mt. Sinai. They rebelled, they disobeyed, and proved their unfaithfulness to God. “How could they?” we may ask. Sadly, in all reality, it is something we still do today.

There is no question that God sees and knows everything about each and every one of us. Like Israel, sometimes, quite frankly we often forget this. We compromise, we accommodate, sometimes extensively manipulate our hearts to tell ourselves that what we are doing isn’t disobedience so it isn’t sin. We all face temptation some more difficult than others nonetheless we have to remind ourselves that no matter how we call it, God knows and sees it for what it really is!

Hosea writes, …but they do not realize that I remember all their evil deeds. Their sins engulf them, they are always before me.” As I mentioned earlier a faulty bow is unreliable and we can’t face the enemy with it. We need to go back, reconsider, revamp, rethink, rewind, renew our faith and trust in God. We will never make it Home without Him.
