I saw a church sign yesterday as I passed by it saying that God chose the foolish things of this world to shame the wise…needless to say I kept processing that thought in my mind. I slept on it and now I’m writing about it. As I went to the scripture in the first chapter of 1st Corinthians I read, “This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.” The Apostle Paul was explaining to the people that what Christ did for humanity may seem foolish to those who don’t believe.
In our world today, and it’s quite evident in our nation, power, influence and wealth are entities that many people aspire. And, all that Jesus Christ taught and lived was totally opposite. Real wisdom is knowing Him personally! The salvation message is simple and offered so freely…yet, people won’t accept it and look for other ways to obtain life eternal or not at all. Now, that in my view is foolish.
Accepting God in our life is simple; in all my years the difficulties rise in its maintenance. It’s a disciplined life. It’s a life that by the world’s standard is foolish, stiff, and unfortunate. “Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.” Those of us who believe and live this life by faith do weigh the witness and make wise choices. But, the Apostle is saying that there isn’t any human knowledge that can replace what the Lord did on the cross. He came, lived, died and rose again for everyone, rich or poor, educated, non-educated, ordinary and non-ordinary people.
He continues, “God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.” Our personal achievements, wealth, education, knowledge and intellect will not get us into His Kingdom; simple faith does. I’ve been taught and believe that we don’t earn our salvation we accept it as the Lord offers it! It’s so simple, but we make it so difficult.
As The Apostle wrote, “Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin.” I can take the mockery and scoffing from others who don’t believe, as I have in the past; but know this, my relationship with the Lord is real and it is the only one that has blessed eternal benefits!
