I Get It!

I have realized that it is the simple ordinary everyday “stuff” that robs me of rest. It isn’t necessarily the planned projects that take up considerable time that do that. No, it is the routine of daily living that sneaks up and takes it from me. And, what’s more sometimes it has the audacity to cleverly distract me so when I plan to take a few moments of time for me; I’ve been diverted to something else.
The routine day to day “stuff” is crafty and sometimes too foxy to catch! So by the end of my day, I’m so exhausted and more so than when I began the day. There are days, I stop turn around and look and ask, ” Where did the time go?” And, in haste I sometimes foolishly look for it!

I thought about the above when I read David’s plea to God for help in the 31st chapter of Psalms. “Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me for I find protection in you alone. I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, Lord for you are a faithful God.”

David had plenty of literal enemies. But, I also believe he knew that he alone was his number one enemy. My reality through this chapter is the recognition that I am my worst enemy. I need rescue from myself. What a thought! It’s as David wrote, “Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting from within.”

We alone know where we stand with God and what we need to do to improve our relationship with Him. So whether we’re accosted by the enemies of our heart and even ourselves we stop to face them and rely on the Lord to see us through the challenges.

Okay, so I have days like I noted above, such that I cry out like David did in panic, “I am cut off from the Lord!” But, I also know as he did that “God heard his cry for mercy and answered his call for help.”

“Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.” Psalm 54:4. God is my help in the simple, everyday ordinary routine “stuff” of my life. And, he sustains me through it all, always has and always will. It is me that must daily recognize my personal conspiracies against myself.

“The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.'”Psalm 31:8 What a promise! And the following verse is a warning to take to heart: “Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.”

I get it, I really do! No, “giddy up” for me; the Lord will help me keep it in control!

Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
