Be At Peace

I sit here and watch the clouds move overhead. They are quiet. They are dark and in between some of them, I catch a glimpse of the sun above them. As the larger clouds move south, I begin to see the misty fog as it follows them. The fog hovers and decides to stay and envelops itself over the fields. It is a cold morning. I check to see if there is any more glimmer of the sun, but it is hidden above the misty fog.
Slowly, the fog begins to lift and move its darkness away. In its place are more clouds that allow the sun to share its warmth through their crevices. Ahh, what a lovely scene. The sunlight is shimmering through and lighting the darkness. As the clouds pass through, they dim the sunlight but for a moment; the beauty is knowing that the sun is still there.

That thought reminds me that God is still there as well. The Psalmist wrote, “I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath.” Psalm 116:1-2

It is a sense of rest and in its glory I am at peace. The knowledge that God listens to me and truly cares is a gift. The fact that I am resting from an earlier morning of daily morning havoc, is a gift.

Discouragement comes. Sadness comes. Troublesome times come. But, remember, God’s mercies are new each day. And when we call on him, he hears us and even “bends down” to listen.

He listens to our every prayer, and responds. And, as the Psalmist wrote, “Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me.” Be at peace. Be at rest, in the Lord!
