Keep Your Commitment

“I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.” Ecclesiastes 3:14
God has been, God is, and God will be forever. Think about the word forever. It is timeless, it is eternal, it is endless, it is for always, it is for keeps, it is at all times.

God is forever and all that He does is as well.

Our purpose in life based on this, is so simple. We should honor, respect and worship God Almighty. That is our basic purpose in life and all else will fall into its place.

Think about it, purpose in life begins with whom we know, and certainly not in what we know. It doesn’t even matter how good we may be or how much we give.

We must give God the first place in our life. When we learn to do that, trust me, life becomes fulfilling. “But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.” Psalm 33:11

There’s that word “forever” again. I know the inconsistency of others and my own frustrate me to no end. And as much as I wilt, I know that my God is totally trustworthy. His intentions never change. He is constant and constant forever.

In this season of my life, I’m in continual need of his guidance and direction. So, I go to whom I can trust; I go to God. I call on him, I cry to him, I seek him and trust him to give me the counsel I sorely need. And, I have learned, difficult as it has been to trust his plans for my life.

Why? Because as the Psalmist wrote, “they stand firm forever.” “Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures.” Psalm 119:90 God does not change. He is the same, “yesterday, today and forever.” How often have I quoted that and failed to focus on “forever”? Oh, but we are so fortunate that his faithfulness endures forever!

Isaiah quotes, “I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.'”Isaiah 46:10

The above scripture was written when Israel was tempted to waver between God and pagan gods. Here, Isaiah affirms the sole lordship of God. God is exceptional in what he knows of the future and his control of it.

He is consistent and he will carry out what he has planned. So when we come to that fork in the road and even consider pursuing that which promises “pleasure, comfort, peace, or security” aside from God…watch out! We must keep; we must remember our commitment to Almighty God!
