Solomon continued to search for life’s meaning. He tried getting his answer in the pleasures of life. He “undertook great projects”, bought slaves, planted all kinds of trees, gardens and even parks. He amassed more wealth. He wrote, “I acquired male and female singers, and a harem as well–the delights of a man’s heart. I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me.”
Some of the pleasures he looked for were good while others were not. In essence, we must look at what we do and even beyond that to the reasons we do them. What is their purpose?
Ask yourself, “Am I searching for the meaning of life, or am I searching for God who gives meaning?”
Solomon wrote in Psalms 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”
Solomon is giving his personal testimony in his “Ecclesiastical” writings of what happens to a kingdom, or even a family that forgets God. We must consider our goals, our activities, all that we do, to be! What is it that motivates you? Consider this, when “push comes to shove” without God as our true foundation, all that we live for is for naught!
