What’s The Purpose?

There isn’t anything better than living for God. Solomon wrote about this to encourage us to come to grips with life. He stated that to have hope outside of God is futile. The only true happiness and fulfillment we will have is that in living for God. Anything else is temporal and does not provide that lasting satisfaction we look for.
In his writings, Solomon searched for meaning in his life and looked outside of God’s resources and quite frankly discovered there isn’t anything as fulfilling as that life offered by God. “‘Meaningless! Meaningless! Says the Teacher. ‘Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.'”

Solomon was one person in the Bible who had it all. But, in his writings I surmise, having it all at his disposal didn’t make him happy nor fulfilled. In our humanity we search for more because we want more. Many aren’t necessarily satisfied with what they have. We look and look and many times never find because we cannot satiate the longing with what this world offers.

We have to be so careful because oftentimes certain paths we follow in life lead us to total emptiness. This is the human plight.

Solomon let’s us know through his own personal experiences that true contentment can only be found knowing that what we do in life is part of God’s purpose for it.

He wrote, “This only I have found: God created mankind upright” And, I believe this with all my heart. God created us to live uprightly. His purpose for us has always been for our good. He continues in this verse, “but they have gone in search of many schemes.” When we leave God’s purpose and His path to follow another we become dissatisfied and lost.

Personally, I need the Lord to guide my life. I am rested knowing that I can call on Him always.

“O our God, we don’t know what to do. But, we are looking to you for help.” 2nd Chronicles 29:12

And, He is always there!
