The Psalmist wrote, “O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.” It’s an amazing thing to think that God knows everything about us. Sometimes we don’t let people get to know us completely because of some of our own personal insecurities. We choose who we “let in” to our circle of “who we really are.” And, even at that, we still hold back.
But, God already knows us. Such that “even the very hairs of our head are all numbered.” How close is that? And, He still accepts us and loves us.
The Psalmist continues, “You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me.”
The Lord is with us through every situation; the good times, the difficult times, He is there. He is there to guide, assist, encourage and protect us. Seriously? God’s unconditional love surpasses our total understanding and I know I will never fully understand His complete love for me. “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand.” Psalm 139:6
The Psalmist continues, “I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!” It doesn’t matter how far we go, or what we do, we can never be far from God’s presence. Why ever would we want to be?
The Apostle Paul wrote many years later, “Who can separate us from the love of Christ?” Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all this we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:35, 37
Believers all over the world and through the centuries have faced troublesome times and hardship and we are no exception. But, we must never forget that although we do, we have not been abandoned by God. It may feel like we are, but we are not! God tells us, and has demonstrated in an abundance of ways that his love is greater and we must believe that and remain secure in it.
We are so blessed in being given such unconditional and unfailing love. “How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!”
Oh, my soul, I am so blessed, so blessed, so blessed…
