He Helps, Regardless!
In King David’s first attempt to move the Ark he consulted with all his officials, including the generals and captains of his army. And, then he addressed the entire assembly of Israel. They all agreed it was the right thing to do.
They ended up placing the Ark of God on a new cart; two men, Uzzah and Ahio were guiding the cart as it was being moved. David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all their might, singing songs and playing all kinds of musical instruments.
The scripture records:”But when they arrived at the threshing floor of Nacon, the oxen stumbled and Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the Ark. Then the Lord’s anger was aroused against Uzzah, and he struck him dead because he had laid his hand on the Ark. So Uzzah died there in the presence of God.”
David became angry with God because God’s anger burst against Uzzah. It records how David (after his anger calmed) became afraid of God and he asked,”How can I ever bring the Ark of God back into my care?” So the Ark was not moved for three months.
As time would have it, preparations to move the Ark were being made. Only this time, it was moved as God had commanded. The consultation this time was with God. So David commanded, “No one except the Levites may carry the Ark of God. The Lord has chosen them to carry the Ark of the Lord and to serve him forever.”
The scripture records that “God was clearly helping the Levites as they carried the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant” back to Jerusalem. There was great rejoicing and celebration and this time God’s anger was not aroused!
The point as I see it? David should have consulted God before consulting with his officials, generals and captains and the whole assembly of Israel. We, should consult God first in changes, questions, and decisions we are faced with. We can consult with others later. God should be our first priority and counsel.
I am still “paying” consequences of decisions I made without consulting the Lord first. It happens! And, aside the lack of counsel from God; He has been there with me encouraging and supportive as I go through the consequences of those decisions I made without His counsel.
I’m thankful that He cares enough to do that for me. His love is unfailing and His mercies new everyday! How could I live without Him?
