The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.” Psalm 32:8-9
How wonderful is that offer that God has made to us? He offers guidance, advice and even protection over us! Who else does that? And, why do so many of us take that offer so nonchalantly? As I read that the other day, I told myself, “for many years you were like that horse and mule.”
I’m just glad “I got over it!” I don’t have to be in control of everything in my life; to have serenity, I just need to surrender. Many folks just don’t like to do that; and that’s why the Lord pulls the reins to remind that we aren’t in as much control as we’d like to believe we are. Surrender! It’s much safer.
This is what the Lord says: “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls.” Jeremiah 6:16
The right path for living has always been there. It is ageless and has been set out by God. But people in general and Christian folks anymore refuse to take God’s path, going their own way instead. How many times have I listened to folks who are unhappy, unfulfilled, unhealthy in spirit and peace of mind?
They have been mislead to believe differently; the only way to find peace and “rest for our souls” is to walk on God’s path and not take away from it or add to it.
“Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.” Psalm 25:4
David expressed his desire for guidance. How do we get it? It’s quite simple, we must want to be guided and realize that God’s primary guidance system is His Word, the Bible.
Psalm 119 tells of the endless knowledge found in God’s Word. By reading the Bible and constantly learning from it, we will gain the wisdom to perceive God’s direction for our lives.
When we are willing to seek God, learn from his Word and obey His commands we will receive his specific guidance.
“The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.” Psalm 25:14
One last thought here, God offers lasting and intimate friendship to those who revere him, who hold him up in the highest honor.
What relationship could ever compare with having the Lord of all creation for a friend? A friend who loves and so willing to guide us to find boundless peace. An everlasting friendship with God will grow as we respect and honor him.
