Love… makes a difference!

My grandson, got off the school bus the other day and came running to me as I waited for him in the car. “Nana,” he said with joy, ” I have a surprise for you. And, Nana, I made it for you! I wrapped it myself but it ripped because I dropped it.” I just listened to him as I drove home from the bus stop.
When we got in the house, he gave it to me and asked me to open it. So I did as he asked and when I saw his simple and loving gift, I could not stop the tears. “Nana, why are you crying, do you like it?” “Oh, yes, I do, it’s beautiful. Thank you,” I told him. I asked him, ” you made this for me?” “Yes,” he said, “I know you’re not my mom but my grandma, but there’s no Grandma Day and I want you to have it.”

The frame and his picture sit on my piano and as I pass it I read “I love you because you are sweet to me.”

I’m anything but sweet! But, his expression of love in such a simple manner broke the veneer around my heart. Sometimes, I find the load I carry a little too heavy and I feel so overwhelmed with the responsibilities and even begin the “woe is me” attitude. But it is moments like these that make me “see” it for what it really is!

The scripture I heard preached Sunday came to mind “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had…”Philippians 2:3-5

Adhering to the advice of the Apostle Paul, really does make the difference!
