Teach me…

Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you. With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God. I will give glory to your name forever, for your love for me is great. Psalm 87:11-13
I came in from outside after listening to the sounds of nightfall. I heard the yelping of dogs, the cry of birds, the cooing of pigeons, the rustling of grasses, the whispering of the breeze and the distant thunder of the rainstorm. As I began to see the twinkling of the stars and the shimmering of the lights of surrounding properties and the twilight of the skies I thanked God for the calm I felt in that moment. I thanked him for the day and asked for protection for the night.

This morning before the break of dawn, I listened to the sounds of the new day. I could hear the pigeons and their sounds were louder and in sing song fashion telling me “time to get up, time to get up!” I heard the dogs barking as the sun started to rise, I could hear the blaring horn of the distant train passing by. I began to hear more birds as they started to sing and as the sun magnified itself in its glory I could hear the larger birds singing to their hearts content. I thanked the Lord for another day.

The Lord has taught me so much through his natural creation. I am so at peace when I stop to listen and observe his creativity at its best in the early hours of the day and in the later hours of the end of day.

It is a time when I share with my creator the love and joy I have because of him. I tell him I want to honor him in the new day and at night I ask him if I did. These times are solely between us and I praise him and share with him the desires and requests of my innermost being.

I know these are His ways of teaching me; as I stand still to listen, observe and let him speak to me through what I hear and what I see at these moments. These moments of tranquility and serenity are invaluable to my understanding and growth and love in him.

Oh, I appreciate and love the Lord; he is worthy of all my praise and worship! He is my Rock and may he always be exalted!
