Teach us to realize…

Often I have thought and have even said, “I wish I knew back then, what I know now!” It’s as the Psalmist wrote, ” once I was young, and now I am old.” The years pass by too quickly and I realize that now. The Psalmist asked the Lord, “Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.”
“Seventy years are given to us,” the scripture says, “some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away.”

When we are young we dream, we plan, we aspire and we look for those things that at that time in our life we believe will satisfy the longings deeply within our souls; only to find that they were but a facade.

When we are young we seek approval of our family, friends, colleagues, in personal, professional and social settings and we sometimes believe as I did that it brings us success in life!

In my experiences, and as of late I have truly understood that the satisfaction in my life is knowing, touching and sensing the unfailing love of the God I serve. God’s love is more than generous and it is a satisfaction I have every morning He wakes me up and I remember how he gives this love so abundantly and without reservation.

What matters, I have discovered as I age and experience my life ventures is as the Psalmist wrote, “And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!”

My success in life has been living in the shelter of the Most High and finding my rest and satisfaction in the shadow of the Almighty!
Ahh…blessed be the Name of the Lord!
