Our Advocate

If there were prophets among you, I the Lord, would reveal myself in visions. I would speak to them in dreams. But not with my servant Moses. Of all my house, he is the one I trust. I speak to him face to face, clearly, and not in riddles! He sees the Lord as he is. So why were you not afraid to criticize my servant Moses? Numbers 12:6-8
I can only imagine how the receivers of this question must have felt. I would have sensed the Lord’s anger; I would have been rewinding the tape in my head of the error I had just committed. I could feel their pain and their shame and I could hear them ask themselves “why?”

And, at the same time I would be thinking after hearing God’s description of his relationship with Moses; how special Moses truly was and how God loved and trusted him. Even now as I read this story, I think how wonderful to be in God’s esteem to that extent!

Even when Moses saw what God had done to his sister as punishment for her criticism of Moses’ humility and because of her arrogance; he begged God to heal her from the leprosy that covered her entirely. But God did not relent and for seven days Miriam had to be kept out of the camp.

It was a difficult punishment but one that God chose for the circumstance. Both Miriam and Aaron repented of their sin against their brother, Moses.

Moses was the vessel God chose and it truly grated him that his siblings would mock him. This teaches me that I must understand that God chooses carefully and wisely who he uses for his cause. And, if chosen, humility is one factor God appreciates and accepts.

Moses interceded for the people countless times. Their rebellion was constant and troubling; but Moses stood on God’s promises and interceded consistently for them.

He was their advocate. I am thankful that my advocate, Jesus Christ still intercedes for my sins and took them to the cross because of unfailing love. I am truly blessed!
