Don’t Be Afraid!

Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord who is great and glorious. Nehemiah 4:14
Nehemiah had a time in the rebuilding of the wall in Jerusalem. He had to handle the complaints of the laborers and deal with the scoffers and the enemies against the rebuilding. It was a challenging time for Nehemiah. But he knew that what he was doing was the right thing and he had God to help him.
It was an arduous time and he was battling from all ends of the spectrum. He would not give in to his tired and worn physical body nor to the emotional and mental stresses that resulted from the enemy. Instead, he trusted God and encouraged his workforce and angered his enemies. He stood on the promises of God and consistently reminded and called them out to God!

God heard them, God listened to them and God moved and protected them! At one point because of their difficult strategic position, Nehemiah noted, “then I explained to the nobles and officials and all the people, ‘The work is very spread out, and we are widely separated from each other along the wall. When you hear the blast of the trumpet, rush to wherever it is sounding. Then our God will fight for us!'” Nehemiah 4:19-20 What encouragement! What inspiration! What faith! He wasn’t afraid to face the enemy; he had the Lord “who is great and glorious!”

We also face the enemy in various shapes and sizes and forms and fashion! It is the enemy’s job to discourage and demoralize us. He wants us to fear and doubt and plainly give up.

We must not forget that although our strategic position may look faulty or insecure; as long as there is hope and as long as God is there we will defeat the ravages of the enemy, however it strikes. We’ve begun a good work in our life; now let us finish it to the end!
